What Types of Legal Matters Do You Handle?

As an associate attorney, I provide counsel and guidance to the loved ones of people who have passed away with legal matters related to the administration of their estates. This work typically includes attending hearings and engaging with other attorneys to ensure the decedent’s affairs are adequately and lawfully concluded and that their final wishes are fulfilled. I also help with guardianships and conservatorships for minors and incapacitated adults who need assistance managing their affairs.

What is your philosophy about estate planning and probate?

As a finance major at UAB, I realized that a complete personal financial plan must include estate planning, regardless of age, wealth, marital status, children, or stage of life. It is never too soon to begin planning for one’s future. The plan should include preparation for all areas of life, including family situations, disabilities, healthcare, and insurance policies. A good estate plan prepares for end-of-life events and ensures that all medical and business affairs are well handled. Proper estate planning will document the desired transition of assets and healthcare wishes, provide proper guardianship of minor or incapacitated children, and provide support for the management of daily life activities. A strong plan eases the burden on their families and affords them the ability to control their affairs, rather than subjecting their personal lives to the default rules established by the state.

What do you see as your role as an attorney?

I strive to be a source of comfort and guidance for my clients as they navigate the challenging situations brought about by their loved one’s death or incapacity. My goal is to build trust and rapport with my clients. Clients should never feel uncomfortable or embarrassed to present any questions or concerns they may have. Many clients are understandably overwhelmed by the necessary legal tasks, but I want to support my clients and ease their fears so they can have a positive and lasting memory of their loved ones.

What are your qualifications?

I received my law degree from Birmingham School of Law (J.D., 2021, cum laude) and graduated from the University of Alabama at Birmingham (B.A., 2018, magna cum laude) with an undergraduate degree in real estate finance. I am a member of the Alabama State Bar and Birmingham Bar Association and have served on the Board of the Birmingham Bar Association Probate Section.
